Feifei, 23, went to the police station of Temple of Heaven in Dongcheng district, Beijing, to say thank you to police officer Hou Xiangwei and his colleagues on September 19.
Twenty-two years ago on March 17, 1994, a female infant was found crying under a large tree by the gate of Heaven Temple Park. A middle-school student called the police and then Hou Xiangwei came and brought her back to the police station. Hou and his colleagues searched for the infant’s parents for three days. Feifei was adopted by an American couple the age of seven, and then moved to the US. “It was in the spring 22 years ago and I was on duty. I received a report from a middle school student, who said a baby girl was crying at the southern gate of Heaven Temple,” Hou Xiangwei recalled.
“When we got there, we saw a little girl who could walk but wasn’t able to speak. Her right hand was wrapped in thick white cloth. We found severe burns on her right hand, so we took her to the hospital,” Hou said, “we waited anxiously outside the ward during the dozen of hours when she was getting treated.”

Clever and diligent, Feifei soon became close to other family members in the US. She also did well at school. Her every progress makes a joy for the family.
Feifei had learned gratitude from her experiences. She has been volunteering at Children’s Home during summer vacations since the age of 15. She said she used to be taken care of by many volunteers when she was a child, thus she was sincerely grateful to those who helped her. Mr.Hou was the most special one//.
Feifei met Officer Hou at the Heaven Temple Police Station this May. She burst into tears at the sight of the officer. Hou also said he was filled with all sorts of feelings seeing the poor little girl had grown into a young lady.
Hou said it was beyond expectation that the good deed 22 years ago would brought him the gratitude from overseas. Feifei’s foster father even bowed to him after knowing what he had done for Feifei.
For Feifei, despite the fact that she has a happy family in the US, she still hopes to find her birth parents, to let them know that she is happy and well.
“I’m not angry at them, nor am I frustrated. It must have been the last option for them in harsh conditions. Perhaps this was the best choice for them,” Feifei said about her biological parents.
